NYG2013: 142 Osun contigent storms Abuja for National Youth Games
State of Osun contigent for the maiden edition of the Under 17 National Youth Games which kick off Sunday, on Friday departed Oshogbo, the state capital ahead of tomorrow’s opening ceremony at the Abuja National Stadium.
Osun will feature athletes in 12 sports at the championship, namely Badminton, Track and Field, weight-lifting, boxing, para-power-lifting, tennis, squash, table tennis, taekwondo, handball and volleyball.
In his farewell message to the team, Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Special Needs, Barrister Stephen Kola-Balogun, represented by the state Sports Council General Manager, Akin Adio, urged the contingent to illustrate by example unity and good character Osun stands for while striving for excellence.
He charged the contingent to put up exceptional performance by finishing among to 10 states.
Adio, who is the leader of delegation, assured the people of the state that the state athletes to the sports meet will out class their contemporaries from other states. He expressed optimism in the ability of the state athletes to do the state proud.
