NYG2013: Jury suspends two fights as 14 finalists emerge in Boxing
The Jury at the on-going National Youth Games (NYG) in Abuja suspended two bouts on Wednesday as fourteen finalists emerged in boxing event.
Eight of the finalists who emerged are male category, while six are female.
The suspended bouts included that of Lawson Shakini of Osun and Abdullahi Sanni from Kano, while the second was the bout involving Usama Muhammed (Kano) and Aremu Rasheed (Ogun), as both fights were suspended on technical grounds.
The male bout had David David fighting in the male 51 kg, becoming the first to book a final ticket after he dazed John Olagbenro to qualify.
Similarly, Wasiu Aderemi from Kwara and Ekire Paul representing Cross river, defeated their opponents Yakubu Awalu (Kano) and Mohammed Umar respectively in the 54 kg to book final spots.
Bernard Kayode (Gombe) and Onukwa Stanley (Enugu) also booked the final spots.
While Stanley brushed aside Uchenta Fabian (Ondo) in the 57 kg through a technical knockout in round three, Kayode punched to victory against Asuquo Edem (Cross River) through a split decision.
Akpan Joshua from Akwa Ibom, won through a unanimous decision against Bawa Anyado from Nasarawa, while Agbo Kenechukwu from Enugu, cruised to final with a 2-1 split decision to defeat Musa Jazuli from Kwara.
The bout in the male 63.5 kg saw Precious Tameno of Rivers, also winning the final ticket through a split decision against Eze Ifeanyi of Anambra.
The bout between Usama Muhammed from Kano and Aremu Rasheed frpm Ogun, was put on hold on technical ground.
In the female 51 kg category Ewah Jerry from Cross River boxed into the final after she defeated Chukwu Roseline from Ondo; Ekpelimode Sophia (Delta) also won a final ticket against Liade Rukayat from Kwara.
The other female bout saw Maxwell Caroline (Delta) win against Samuel Omotoyosi (Borno) through a split decision, while Asa Etim, from Cross river, threw in the towel in the bout against Nwafam Chisom from Anambra.
The finals of the various weight categories will take place tomorrow Dec. 12 at the Abuja National stadium velodrom, venue of the boxing event.
