NYG2013: Umar wins two Badminton finals for Bauchi

Mustafah Umar from Bauchi State was the star of the Badminton event of the on-going National Youth Games at the Abuja National Stadium.

The 14 year old help the State to a 2:0 victory in the Male Single final category of the competition before joining forces with Abdulhamid Musa to win the Doubles.

Interestingly, it was Musa that he defeated in the single final after edging out Eze Chidinma from Anambra State and Yunusa Momoh from FCT in the quarter final and semi final respectively.

Musa on the other hand, had subdued Jasam Jonan from Cross River State and Aliyu Shehu in the quarterfinal and semi final respectively on his way to the final.

Meanwhile, in the Male Double category, they both defeated Olawole Odunayo and Akinsola Simeon from Ogun State 2:0 in the final.

They bulldozed Adamu Emmanuel and Tapshak Wistong of Plateau State 2:0 earlier in the semi-finals.

Umar expressed excitement with the success he recorded at the Games and promised to continue improving.

Cross River’s Juliet Ekahem and Efa Jonah won the Female double after defeating Edidiong Effiong and Deborah Anthony Sylvanus (Akwa Ibom) 2:0 in the final.

In the Female Single category, Sunday Queenith of Imo State defeated Edidiong Effiong Ekune from Akwa Ibom 2:0 to win the final.

She defeated Ilori Aminat (Ogun State) 2:1 and Opeyemi Ojo (Oyo State) 2:0 in the semi final and quarterfinals to make it to the final.

Certificates were awarded to the winners after the completion of the Badminton competition on Wednesday.
