Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State says the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme is still delivering on the dreams of its founding fathers, forty years after it was established.

Speaking, yesterday, at the during the presentation of trophies won by the state NYSC contingent to the last Director-General’s Sports and Cultural competitions in Abuja, Governor Oshiomhole said: “we are celebrating the effort, industry and hard work of young men and women from different parts of the country who on account of the service posting have competed not on behalf of their states but have brought laurels to the state in which they are serving.

“I am very proud of them and I think it is the spirit behind the setting up of the NYSC. Any Nigerian, regardless of his place of birth, can bring honour to any part of the country”.

He stressed the need to support the NYSC rhetoric, adding that those values of commitment, oneness and unity behind the setting up of the scheme should be inculcated in the corps members.

In appreciation of the victory, Governor Oshiomhole splashed five hundred thousand naira cash reward on the NYSC contingent.

The state NYSC volleyball team won the first prize while the cultural troupe won the 3rd prize in the competition.

The prizes won were presented to the Governor by the state NYSC coordinator, Mr Lanre Ologun.
