Oba Ovoranmwen Centenary Cup: Palace FC beats BJ Foundation

adams oshiomole edoOba Palace Football Club of Benin at the weekend defeated BJ Foundation Football Club by a lone goal in the opening match of the Oba Ovonranmwen Centenary Football Championship.

The match was played at the Oba Palace playing ground, among those that grace the occasion was the former NPL Chairman Chief Oyuki Jackson Obaseki JP who was the chairman of the occasion, the Commissioner for Sports who was duly represented by the Director of Sports Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mrs Betty Omoruyi, former Edo Football Association board member lsaac lgbe, members of Edo Football Association.

Chief Oyuki thank the organizers of the championship for put up this great tournament to remember the great Oba of the Bini Kingdom.

“l want to thank the cup donor Chief Solomon Iyobosa Edebiri JP,MON i feel honour to chair this occasion as a Sportsman and former Nigeria Premier League chairman is in me. We thank the organiser, l hope talents discover here will represent the state and the country in future.”

The Oba Ovonranmwen championship is put together by Solomon lyobosa Edebiri centre for change in conjunction with the Edebiri sports foundation, in is remark Chief Solomon Edebiri says the Oba Ovonranmwen championship is going to be an annual event i want to say that 100 years ago.

Oba Ovonranmwen died today (Sunday) is a proud for we the sons and daughters of Bini to celebrate him.

“As the football championship for Oba Ovonramwen gold cup kick off today (Sunday) l hope players discover here will represent the state and the country and the teams for the finals will be kitted. l wish you all the best as the championship progress.”

18 local government areas in the state are involved in the Championship as the final comes up January 2014 at the Sam Ogbemudia stadium and the winners is expected to be awarded at the gala night on the 18th, January 2014 at Oba Akenzua cultural Centre Benin city.
