Olympic Qualifiers: How the Nigerian Female Weightlifters Fared in Cameroon

Nigeria female weightlifters won eleven (11) Gold, Seven (7) Silver and Two (2) Bronze medals at the African Senior Weightlifting Championships, held in Yaoundé.

The Nigerians recorded success at the continental event staged in Cameroon from May 7 to 14, qualifying to the Olympic Games in Rio 2016.

The trio of Chineye Fidelis (58Kg), Victoria Adesanmi (63Kg) and Mariam Usman (+75Kg) won three (3) Gold medals each as Balikis Otunla (75Kg) won two (2) Gold and one (1) Silver.

Among Nigeria female weightlifter, the duo of Fatima Yakubu (53Kg) and Rachael Ekoshoria (58Kg) won Three (3) silver medals for team Nigeria, while Monica Uweh settled for Two (2) bronze medals.

Nigeria female lifter, Chineye Fidelis won the best female lifter’s trophy of the tournament

It will be recalled the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation selected seven (7) female lifters after funds hampered the participation of Eight (8) male lifters.

As it stands no lifter will be entering the shores of the country without a medal.
