Opposition Alleges Plot to Assassinate Sirleaf

Mr. Jefferson Koijee Youth Chair of Liberia’s main opposition political party the Congress for Democratic change (CDC) has alarmed over what he calls plans by some officials of the government to assassinate the president upon her return to Liberia.
According to Koijee, a newly launched group under the banner Liberians for the Protection of Peace and democracy headed by Mr. Musa Bility is the mastermind behind the plot.

Koijee at a news conference on Wednesday said come October 9, 2013 the date set for the President’s return, Musa Bility and co including the minister of national defense Brownie Samukai with an intent to impose on the Liberian people Cllr. Charles Brumskine former standard bearer of the Liberty Party as head of state in a power sharing deal is are set to create chaos in the country.

Mr. Koijee said: “this grouping is looking for chaos and is confident that it can get in confrontation with the Ellen Step Down Campaign and that can be used as a cover-up to distract security forces, while defense minister Brownie Samukai has given assurance that the ground is fertile for such an operation.”

The CDC executive described as very serious the issue and said the CDC youth league cannot sit and allow Liberians’ future to be mortgaged again because some Liberian politicians are irresponsibly greedy for power.

“This Party knows what it is to want peace more than power, this party knows what it is to bury members on the back of stolen elections, we know about choosing the rights of our people to live in peace above our willingness to govern,” he said.”For us no price is too high to pay for peace.

We are calling on the international community to remain vigilant because there are lot of confused persons hurt in this country and lot of scheming politicians ready to take advantage of them.”

The CDC youth wing chair further asked the International community to take what he calls the necessary steps using its security and intelligence forces to prevent Liberia from returning to carnage, and erasing those little gains the country has made.

Asked if he could prove his statement against those he accused he said; “There was a meeting held last night and Brownie Samukai was in that meeting; these people want to take advantage of what they described as leniency of the president because they longer feel protected.”

Speaking during the news conference held at the headquarters of the CDC in Congo town, Koijee referenced several incidents that have happen which according to him validate his allegation.

He named the demand by a group of Liberians asking President Sirleaf to resign, the resignation of the President’s son Robert Sirleaf from two key posts he held in government, another campaign launched by another group of Liberians for the President to stay in power and not resign, hints of the return of former politicians, and the discovery of internationally recognized group of assassins in Liberia.

Meanwhile Mr. Koijee has said, his statement is not a representation of his party but his his personal view as CDC Youth Chair.

All attempts made by FPA through telephone calls and Text message to get responses from Minister Samukai and Mr.
Bility yielded no results as the pair did not answer to calls or respond to text messages sent them in relations to these accusations made by the CDC youth wing chair.

It can be recalled that Mr. Bility and other officials of government in support of the President ending her second term launched a civil society group last Friday following calls by some Liberians for the President’s resignation.
