Oshoala scores 17th league goal as Barcelona silence Athletic Bilbao

Asisat Oshoala scored her 17th league goal of the season to help Barcelona earn a 4-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in Tuesday’s Spanish Primera Iberdrola game in Lezama.

Having last found the net against Atletico Madrid, the Nigeria international earned her 18th league start and went on to continue her fine goalscoring form in the game.

The forward’s effort has also aided Barcelona to extend their fine winning run, securing the 31th victory of the season, ahead of the Women’s Champions League clash with Manchester City.

Barcelona raced into an early lead in the 22th minute of the encounter when Patri Guijarro was set up by Mapi Leon for the opener of the visitors.

10 minutes later, Berta Bou double the lead with her individual brilliant finish for Lluis Cortes against against Bilbao.

After the break, Oshoala extended Barcelona’s lead in the 61st minute before Alexia Putellas wrapped up the away triumph 10 minutes from time.

Nigeria’s Oshoala featured for entireu duration of the encounter and has grabbed her 17th league goals in 24 games for Barcelona this season.

With her latest goal, the Africa Women’s Footballer of the Year is just three short of her personal season best last term, when she netted 20 times in 19 games. Now, the Super Falcons captain has scored 23 goals across all competitions.

The latest victory sees Barcelona open 20 points gap at the top of the Iberdrola table after gathering 93 points from 32 games this term, with one matches in hand.

Oshoala will hope to continue her superb displays in front of goal when Barcelona battle Sporting de Huelva on Thursday and Eibar on Sunday in their remaining matches of the season.
