Paris 2024: Favour Ofili impresses on way to 200m semifinals

Nigeria’s Favour Ofili has qualified for the semifinals of women’s 200m at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
She executed a good race plan to win Heat 6 in a time of 22.24s.
Ofili defeated Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, who finished second in 22.28s, and Gina Bass-Bittaye third in 22.84s.
Ofili was the second fastest overall in the six heats, with only the United States of America (USA’s) Gabby Thomas (22.20s) running faster than the Nigeria 100m champion.
The feat ended days of controversy after her name was omitted from the 100m roster at the Olympics despite winning the Nigeria qualifiers as champion.
The Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN) insisted that they registered Ofili for the 100m, 200m, and relays.
Ofili remained a major part of Team Nigeria’s medal hopefuls at this year’s Olympics alongside world champion, Oluwatobi Amusan.
Nigerian women wrestlers also stand a chance of winning medals for the West African country.
