By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria’s Odunayo Folasade Adekuoroye lost her quarterfinal women’s wrestling 57kg fight.
She narrowly missed out on a place in the semifinals.
Odunayo had won her second-round fight against Fouzia Aouissi by a VIN (Victory by Injury) and was looking good in the quarterfinal against China’s Kexin Hong, leading 4-0 at some point.
The witty Hong came fighting back, scoring 8 points in quick succession and eventually winning the fight 10-8.
The loss meant that Adekuoroye failed to win any Olympic medal.
One of the best in her category, she has won medals at the World Championships, African Championships, African Games, Islamic Solidarity Games, and Commonwealth Games.
Apart from the World Championship where she has not won any gold medal, the 30-year-old wrestler continued her search for a medal at the Olympics.
