Paris 2024 Paralympics: Eniola Bolaji and Chigozie Jeremiah make history in badminton event
Nigerian Para-Badminton athletes, Mariam Eniola Bolaji and Chigozie Jeremiah Nnanna are the first players ever from Africa to win a match at the Paralympic Games.
Bolaji won two consecutive matches in Paris and also booked her place in the quarterfinals on her first outing at the Games.
Bolaji defeated Australia’s Aurelie Vinot 2-0 (21-8, 21-14) to record her second consecutive victory at the Games.
The win confirmed her spot in the next round of the competition.
The Kwara State-born athlete also won her first match against her Indian opponent by an identical (21-8, 21-14) straight-set win.
Nnanna, on the other hand, will be hoping to emulate his compatriot and looking for his second victory.
