Paris 2024 Paralympics: Esther Nworgu clinches second medal for Nigeria

Esther Ogechi Nworgu has won Nigeria’s second medal at the ongoing Paralympic Games.

She clinched the silver medal in women’s up to 41kg Para-Powerlifting.

Nworgu set two new Paralympic Records with her last two attempts, lifting 112kg and 118kg respectively.

China’s Zhe Cui set a new Personal Record (PR) of 119kg to win the gold medal.

Nworgu started Team Nigeria’s medal hunt in the country’s comparative advantage sport at the Paralympics on an impressive note.

It took four Paralympic Records to separate China’s Zhe Cui and Nigeria’s Esther Nworgu, who both won gold and silver medals, respectively, in women’s 41kg Para-Powerlifting event.

Nworgu is the first Nigerian Powerlifter to compete in Paris and there are seven more to come.
