Paris 2024 Paralympics: Isau Ogunkunle seals semifinal berth in para-table tennis

Isau Ogunkunle continued his giant strides at the ongoing Paris 2024 Paralympics, securing qualification into the semifinals of men’s Singles Class 4 Para-Table Tennis.

Ogunkunle defeated the home favourite, Maxime Thomas (a triple Paralympic bronze medalist), recovering from a set down to win 3-1 (9-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-6).

This is the second match the Nigerian is coming out tops against a top seeded player.

Before coming to Paris, the farthest Ogunkunle had gone at the Paralympic Games is the quarterfinals (Tokyo 2021); but now he will be playing his first ever semifinal match at the Paralympics.

He also stunned one of the favourites coming from a set down to win his Round of 16 game.

Ogunkunle beat Turkish player, Abdullah Ozturk by 3-1 (11-6, 6-11, 7-11, 10-2) securing a remarkable victory over world number three ranked player in the last 16.
