Paris 2024 Paralympics: Nigeria’s Eniola Bolaji to fight for bronze medal after semi-final loss

Nigeria’s Eniola Mariam Bolaji will fight for a bronze medal in badminton at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

She put up a strong fight in her Para-Badminton semifinal match, losing to China’s Zuxian Xiao in the women’s Singles SL3.

Bolaji came very close to making the final but lost 2-0 (16-21, 17-21) to miss out on a chance to compete for a gold medal.

She will return to the court on Monday, facing Ukraine’s Oksana Kozyna in the Bronze medal match.

The loss ended her good run after becoming the first African Para-athlete to make the semifinals of the Para-Badminton event at the Paralympics.

Bolaji recorded a straight-set victory in the women’s Singles SL3 quarterfinals, beating India’s Mandeep Kaur 2-0 (21-8, 21-9) to book her spot in the last four.

Alongside her Nigerian compatriot, Chigozie Jeremiah Nnanna, they became the first African athletes to win a match at the Paralympics.
