Patience Jonathan Rallies Support for Disabled
Dame Patience Jonathan, the wife of Nigeria’s President, on Wednesday hosted three other first ladies, who were in Abuja to attend the National Women for Peace Rally.
She used the dinner as a medium to seek support for people living with disabilities, encouraging them not to give up as there is ability in every disability.
She advised them to look up to some of those famous people, who had achieved greatness despite their challenges.Patience Jonathan
The three first ladies at the dinner were Mrs. Kim Simplis of Belize, Prof. Khadijat Hamdi of Saharawi Peoples Republic and Mrs. Nompumelelo Zuma of South Africa.
Other women present at the dinner included the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Amina Sambo, female ministers, legislators and wives of top government functionaries.
Patience Jonathan said, “The Almighty God that created the disabled persons also provided them with the talent and skill to live a fulfilled life, so we must, therefore, continue to motivate them to overcome their disabilities and launch themselves into greatness.”
“If the physically-challenged also has something to contribute, all they need is our support and encouragement for them to reach their full potentials (sic).”
Simplis of Belize was humbled by the reception accorded to her by her Nigerian counterpart.
She said, “I know Nigeria would be my gateway in my future visits to Africa and I will see to it that Belize starts a Women’s Day to celebrate the achievement of women in the country.”
Hamdi of Saharawi also expressed appreciation for the support given to her country by Nigeria.
