PDP urges reconciliation on Muslim holiday
The ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Nigerians to make the most of this year’s Eid-El-Kabir festival to ensure reconciliation.
The party urged the “rededication to the ideals of sacrifice, patriotism and total submission to the will of the Almighty.”
In a Sallah goodwill message, the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Olisa Metuh, urged Nigerians to always be guided by the lessons of the festival which were selfless service, obedience to constituted authority and love for one another.
“The lessons of this great celebration are of critical importance to our dear country at this moment in our political evolution. Nigeria will be a greater country if all citizens imbibe the culture of sacrifice, selfless service and support to constituted authority especially the current transformational efforts of the Federal Government,” he said as the Muslim followers commemorated Eid-El-Kabir on Tuesday.
The PDP spokesman lamented incidents whereby some politicians continued to “fan the embers of division, hatred and bitterness at a time all leaders should be rallying points for unity and progress.”
“Those who wish for a divided Nigeria along narrow primordial lines are living in the past and are in for a huge disappointment as the PDP is determined more than ever before to unite all Nigerians in line with the visions of the founding fathers,” Metuh added.
The PDP reminded Nigerians to remember the less privileged as they celebrated the festivities known as the Feast of Sacrifice.
The Party congratulated the entire Muslim ummah and urged all clerics to pray for the peace and unity of the country.
The calls come amid incidents of terror blamed on the Islamist militant Boko Haram sect
