People want Haaland to fail – Guardiola
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has claimed that people want striker Eriling Haaland to fail.
Guardiola said this while joking that he is ‘concerned’ about Haaland’s form after the Norway international scored a brace in Man City’s UEFA Champions League 3-1 victory over Young Boys on Wednesday.
While Haaland was able to end his five-game goal drought in the Champions League, the former Borussia Dortmund star still looked a little shaky and anxious in front of goal against Young Boys, spurning several good chances to score throughout the match.
Even though Haaland has scored 11 goals in 14 games so far this season, some believe his performances for Guardiola’s side are not quite matching up to those of last season where he scored a record 52 goals.
Asked if Haaland ‘worries’ about not taking more chances, Guardiola told TNT Sports after Man City’s win over Young Boys: “A lot, a lot. Honestly, I’m so concerned!
“The people expect him to score four goals every time. The people want him to fail. I am sorry but this guy will score goals all his life, with the chances he is an incredible threat.”
