Peseiro Defends Performance After Draw Against Lesotho

In a press conference following the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw with Lesotho in a 2026 World Cup qualifier, head coach Jose Peseiro defended his position, stating that he could not be sacked by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) based on the result.

Peseiro addressed questions about the possibility of his contract being terminated, stating, “Why should I be sacked? Let me explain the performance.”

Despite going behind to a team ranked 153rd in the world, the coach highlighted the number of opportunities created by the Super Eagles. He expressed disappointment in the result but defended the team’s performance, stating, “Our opponent only had two shots and scored from one of them.”

Peseiro emphasized the dominance of Nigeria throughout the match, saying, “Lesotho stayed behind all through for 90 minutes. They only came forward two or three times.”

The draw leaves Nigeria with one point in their group, alongside Lesotho, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe. The Super Eagles will now face Zimbabwe in their next match on Sunday, November 19, at the Huye Stadium in Butare.
