The Police in Kogi State said it had arrested one person (whose name was not given) with eight stolen explosive detonators on the eve of the state assembly election in the state.

A statement signed by the command’s Police Public Relations officer (PPRO), Shola Collins Adebayo, revealed that some other persons were arrested with locally made guns during the election.

According to the PPRO, the development would have spelled doom for the state if the police were not proactive, adding that those arrested would be prosecuted in court after the completion of investigation.

He said though the election was not without hitches in some polling units and localities, the proactive measures put in place by the police commissioner, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, ensured that there was calm in the state before, during and after the election.

Shola said the command was ready to perform its expected duties of ensuring peaceful election in areas where elections were declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) whenever a rerun is schedule.

The police however commended other security agents and other stakeholders in helping to ensure that the assembly elections were peaceful in the state.
