President Unity Cup: Kogi, Kebbi Progress, FCT crashes out
Kogi yesterday defeated Ekiti 3-0 to advance to the semi-final of the YSFON President U-17 Unity Cup Boys Soccer Championship after two successive victories in match-day encounter at the Kogi Confluence stadium, Lokoja.
The hosts earlier grabbed a 2-0 win over Taraba and easy triumph over Ekiti keep their place at the top of Group A.
In group B, Osun from a goal down came to beat FCT 2-1 who crashed out after earlier 3-1 loss to Kebbi as goals from Daniel Olaoluwa and Adenihun Sadiq helped Osun edged-past FCT.
Bauchi also eased to a smooth start as they grabbed three points and three goals without kicking the ball as opponents, FCT failed to turn-up.
Kebbi secured their second win when they took Osun to the cleaners white washing them 5-1 with three first half goals from Kebbi’s Jemedu Dundal and brace from Umar Abdullahi cancelled Osun’s lone goal from Karim Babatunde.
High flying northerners seems unstoppable as they added two goals in the second half thanks to Muhammed Shehu and Salim Hamza to spoil the unbeaten run of Osun.
Hosts, Kogi are the only yet to concede a goal and first to advance.
The Spcial Adviser to Governor Idris Wada on Sports Development, Paul Aiyenugba hailed the players on the progress recorded so far and enjoined them to remain focused and playing as a unit in order to emerge victorious.
