Presidential Election Petition Court Sets Timeline for Presentation of Petition

The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) has directed Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), and his party to submit their joint petition against the February 25 presidential election within a three-week timeframe.

Additionally, the court has ordered President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the target of the petition, along with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to defend their victory in the election within five days.

Obi, represented by his counsel Professor Awa Kalu SAN, had requested a seven-week period to present their allegations regarding the disputed election that led to Tinubu’s victory.

Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, Chairman of the Court, issued the order on Tuesday during the presentation of the pre-hearing sessions report.

Justice Tsammani stated that the decision was reached due to the limited time available for the resolution of the petition.
