Prince Kolawole Emerges as Kogi Assembly Elects third Speaker in two years

The Kogi State House of Assembly has elected Honourable Matthew Kolawole as its new speaker after the resignation of Alhaji Umar Ahmed Imam at plenary on Thursday, August 3, 2017.

Following his election, Kolawole becomes Kogi’s third Speaker in 18 months after Umar Imam and Momohjimoh Lawal had previously took charge since the resumption of the sixth Assembly.

Kolawole, the representative of the Kaba/Bunu constituency was sworn-in as the Assembly’s principal officer after the former speaker resigned from his position for peace to reign in the state.

Imam’s resignation is coming on the heels of narrowly escaping being assaulted on Tuesday when hoodlums attacked the Assembly’s plenary session to disrupt it.

Meanwhile, Honourable Victor Omofaye was also sworn in as the new Chief Whip of the Assembly.
