Right Group Advocates FG Permits for Chinese Businessmen in Nigeria

A human rights group called Nigeria Arise Foundation (NAF) has urged the Federal Government to investigate claims of work, residency or expatriate permits of some Chinese immigrants in the country.

Secretary General of the group, Comrade Japheth Oduma Odifa, in a statement, said the investigation is necessary to prevent them hiding under the umbrella of “foreign investors.”

The call is coming just as the group said over 490 Nigerians doing genuine business in China are currently languishing in several jails in that country despite several pleas by the Nigerian government for their release.

Odifa said some Chinese natio-nals doing business in Nigeria came into the country with only visiting and tourist documents but are now full-time investors with various unsustainable claims.

The statement said the Comp-troller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, David Parandang recently said over 17,000 Chinese are illegally resident in Lagos and Ogun states alone with many constituting nuisance to the Nigerian communities.
