D’tigers star Alade Aminu says for the African champions to make a statement in the forthcoming Rio De Janeiro Summer Olympics games the team need to improve in every aspect of the game considering the fact that global heavyweights like the United States of America will be there as well.

In a chat with Fever Pitch yesterday, the Hapoel Eilat guard confidently added that Nigeria could defeat any of the other qualified twelve teams as well with maximum preparation and the right focus.

“We consider ourselves global heavyweights because we are one of the only twelve teams to make it to Rio, with the right preparations and focus we can definitely go far, I strongly feel the sky is our limit. To make an impact in Brazil, we need to improve in every aspect whether it’s organization, defence, focus we need to be at the top of our game all the time.”

On the disappointing outing at the London 2012 Olympics, the older of two Aminu siblings in William Voight’s team (Farouq being the other) feels the team gave its best at the tournament but it just wasn’t to be at the Games four years ago.

Voight’s were placed in a seemingly tough group for the basketball event of the Rio 2016 Olympics.

D’Tigers belong to Group B alongside hosts, Brazil and London 2012 Olympics Silver medallists, Spain.

The host nation were placed in Group B with Nigeria after the USA and Venezuela had been drawn in Group A in order to avoid having three teams from the Americas in the same group.

Argentina and Lithuania are also in Group B with Nigeria while a yet to be decided team from among those to play in the play-offs will complete the five-team roster.

D’Tigers will be starting their campaign at the Olympics against Argentina on Sunday August,7 2016.
