Led by the Onojie of Opoji, Ehidiamen 1, the royal fathers who paid a visit to the Governor in his office, yesterday, said the no other Governor since the days of Mid-West State has given recognition to royal fathers as the Governor Oshiomhole.

According to the Onojie, who spoke on behalf of his brother royal fathers, “we want to commend you for all you’ve been doing in respect of the road networks in Edo State and we in Edo Central look forward to more in this year’s budget.

“We don’t see you as an Etsako man, the Esogban of Benin Kingdom once said Oshiomhole is a Benin man, we are today saying you are an Esan man, because what we have not received from past Governors, you have done it for the Esan people.

“The Esan people are indeed grateful to you and I’m asked to thank you specially by the traditional that before your administration, since we got the Mid-West state to Bendel and then Edo State, we have had both military and civilian governors, none has given more recognition that the Governor of Edo State, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole.

“We are indeed very grateful and we want to assure you that we will continue to partner with you in all your programmes that will bring development to the whole Edo people.”

The Governor who thanked the royal fathers for the visit said the government has approved the appointment of Prof Cordelia Agbebaku as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the Ambropse Alli University because of her track records.

According to him, “we are confirming the Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University. I believe she brought some stability to the institution. They tried to politicise the whole thing by bringing ethnicity into it, but Edo will be driven by merit because we recognize merit.”

He thanked the royal fathers for the support that they have extended to his administration, adding that they have been of tremendous help in shaping the policies of this government.

“We will continue to do our best to make the point that Edo is one and the same. Politics of ethnicity is promoted by people who do not have ideas and there is nothing that is good for the Bini man that is bad for the Esan man and there is nothing that is good for the Esan man that is bad for the Bini man.

“Politicians creates this divide. One of my objectives is to remind ourselves of our common ancestry and common dialect. I want to thank you for all you are doing to promote the cause of peace and sharing information with security agencies that has led to the reduction of crime in the state”, he said.

The Governor who said he visited Edo Central at the weekend to inspect the ongoing construction works in the area expressed satisfaction that the jobs would be completed in scheduled time.

He said: “we have completed the road design for Ekpoma, and that work would commerce this quarter in spite of the fact that there is a radical drop in our revenue. You have heard on the media, Edo State share is part of that.

“This year, we will flag off additional roads and we are also going to build more schools. I am committed to doing my very best so that when I am out of here when anybody comes tomorrow, he cannot give excuses. Nigeria has to change. No country in the world has all the money, but if you have the will and determination, you would impact on the lives of the people”, he said.
