Nigerian forward Emmanuel Emenike was on target as his Russia side Spartak Moscow continued their 100 per cent start to the new Russian Premier League season as they won 4-1 at rivals Dinamo.
It was as close to a dream performance as coach Valeri Karpin could have asked for, with his men four up by the break and only conceding when Andriy Voronin scored from the spot with ten minutes left.
Before that, Jose Manuel Jurado – a permanent signing after a loan from Schalke – had started and finished the scoring for his men, with Pavel Yakovlev and Emmanuel Emenike contributing in between.
Rostov are second in the table after a 3-0 win over Tomsk, who remain without a point after promotion to the top flight.
They were undone by one of their former players, with Artem Dzyuba scoring a hat-trick which started in the third minute and ended with an 84th-minute penalty.
The day’s other game saw Volga Nizhny Novgorod score two second-half goals to beat Ural 2-1. Spartak Gogniev opened things up, but Piotr Polczak levelled the scores before the hour mark and Andrei Karyaka won it from the spot with ten minutes to go.
