Assistant coach of Sao Tome and Principe national team, William Barbosa says Nigeria’s senior national team are the second-best team in Africa.
The gaffer saw his side fall to a whooping 6-0 loss to Nigeria in the last game of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Uyo, on Sunday.
The result saw the three-time African champions recording a 16-0 aggregate win after sealing a place at next year’s AFCON in Ivory Coast with a game to spare ahead of Sunday’s encounter.
Victor Osimhen scored three goals making him the top goal scorer of the campaign with ten goals, a feat Barbosa sees as making the West African side the second-best team on the continent.
“Nigeria has some of the best players in Africa, quality players in top leagues around the world,” Barbosa said, as per The Pledge.
“For now, after Senegal, Nigeria has the best team in Africa.”
While Barbosa sees Nigeria as the second-best football side in Africa, Senegal which he viewed as the best is only second to World Cup semi-finalist, Morocco on the FIFA rankings.
The three teams are favourites to win the AFCON next year with Nigeria seeking for their fourth title after triumphs in 1980, 1994, and 2013.
