Senate President Harps on Supports to Worship Centres
An appeal has gone to Nigerians to always contribute to the building of places of worship as it remains the only antidote to making the nation great.
The Senate President,David Mark gave the charge at the launching of a N500million fund raising for the new Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Lokoja.
the Senate President who was represented by Comrade Abba Moro,Minister of Interior, said owing to the decay of morals and lots of anti social vices now noticed in the society, noted that the remedy lies in building places of worship that would help re mould the society.
The Senate President said the solution to the nations problems lies in seeking the face of God which he noted can best be done in befitting places of worship.
The Senate President commended the Catholic Church in its contribution to the socio economic development of the nation,called on other places of worship to emulate the good work of the Catholic church.
In his message at the launch, the Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada disclosed that With commitment and co-operation, the Nation Nigeria can accomplish great tasks.
The State Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, disclosed that the zeal with which spiritual places are been constructed, is instructive that God always empowers his people to accomplish the projects.
While noting that spiritual structures have become metaphors of development in the nation’s history, as they are designed, developed, completed and successfully maintained, the present administration Capt. Wada disclosed, intends to draw on the precept that is aimed at developing public structures and facilities that are functional, beneficial and accessible to all and sundry.
Capt. Wada thank God for the spirit of peace, harmony and unity that prevails in the State.
He also assured that the State will continue to maintain that good record and will continue to protect worshipers of all faith, promote religious freedom and to ensure inter-faith co-operation.
Capt. Wada, commended the Catholic Church for the support provided to the present administration in education, spiritual guidance, prayers and in initiating self-help projects assured of his administration’s support to the church at all times .
Also in his remarks,Chief Uche Luke Okpuno,Chief Launcher at the occasion who was represented by Senator Tunde Ogbeha,described Lokoja as a confluence of various religions,commended the peaceful harmony that exist in the state and called on Nigerians to close the widening gap that has exited in making the nation a country of envy.
Earlier in his welcome address,Sir Victor Ibrahim,Chairman planning committee,called on the Federal Government to appreciate God for Lokoja and fix the National Christian Prayers of thanksgiving for the country in the project under construction in view of the place of Lokoja in the qqnations history as the country celebrates its centenary next year.
There were goodwill messages from John Cardinal Onaiyekan,Archibishop of Abuja,His Royal Majesty the Attah Igala,Dr Micheal Ameh Oboni among others who graced the occasion, called on Nigerians to embrace God in all their ways to make the country to grow.
