The Kogi state governorship election petition tribunal has commenced proceedings with seven petitioners including the Governor-in-waiting Mr Yahaya Bello.
The three member panel has Justice Halima Mohammed as Chairman and Justice Patricia Njoku as well as Justice Ogbogo Elijah Ejembi as members.
At the inaugural sitting in Lokoja, the tribunal granted six ex-parte motions on substituted service to summon one of the respondents Mr Yahaya Bello who was not represented at the maiden hearing of the tribunal.
The six defense counsels in a unanimous motion told the tribunal that since the second respondent, Mr Yahaya Bello, could not be served with the summons through his contact addresses, as corroborated by the bailiff, the tribunal should grant their prayer for substituted service.
This means a notice of summons to a respondent to appear before the tribunal through other means possible especially as the second respondent Yahaya Bello was not represented by his defense counsels at the tribunal.
The tribunal consequently granted the request by the six petitioners to that effect and adjourned till the 21st of this month for the continuation of hearing on the Kogi state governorship election petition.
