Former Super Eagles Chief Coach, Samson Siasia, has appealed to current boss, Stephen Keshi to consider Villarreal FC of Spain striker, ike Uche, for this year’s World Cup finals.
According to the former national Under-20 coach, Ike Uche remains the best striker in Nigeria in recent times and so deserves a recall
Speaking with Newswatch Sports in Abuja, Siasia advised the current Super Eagles technical crew to forget whatever happened at the last Nations Cup in South Africa and bring back the player who has been in superlative form for his club.
Ike Uche has so far scored 10 goals in the current season, helping his club to a very comfortable position in the Spanish La Liga.
The player had been shut out from the Super Eagles since the team returned from the Nations Cup in South Africa, and was never a part of Nigeria’s qualification campaign to Brazil 2014.
However, in view of his recent club performances in Spain, Siasia feels Keshi should have a rethink and give Uche another chance .
“Ike Uche has been a goal scorer right from time. I think he has scored more goals than any player right now. What happened at the Nations Cup should not be a a yardstick.
“I think Keshi should give him another chance because aside from Emenike, I don’t see any player that scores like Ike Uche, Ike Uche is better than this strikers we are parading now which is why I think Keshi should recall him.
Speaking on the chances of the Home based players breaking into the World Cup team following their performance at the Africa Nations Championship, Siasia said it is a great opportunity for them to prove to the coach that they are good enough for the Mundial.
“If they show that they are good enough, Nigerians will fight for them, provided they do well in this CHAN tournament,” he said.
