Solomon Lar dies at 80
A former Chairman of Nigeria’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr.Solomon Lar, has died at the age of 80, his home state of Plateau in northern Nigerian announced Wednesday.
The state government said Mr. Lar died Wednesday morning in a US hospital after a protracted illness.
Mr. Lar also served as a Governor of his home state and a parliamentarian in the first republic.
Meanwhile, President Jonathan has hailed Mr. Lar as a great hero of democracy in Nigeria
‘The President believes that Chief Lar will always be remembered for the exemplary humility, great vision, wisdom and maturity which he brought to political leadership in Nigeria for over 50 years as a legislator, executive governor, party leader and highly revered elder statesman,’ a presidency statement said.
