Soyinka Says He Advised Tinubu Against Running for Presidency

Nigerian literary icon Prof. Wole Soyinka has revealed that he advised President Bola Tinubu against running for presidency in the last election.

The renowned dramatist disclosed this after paying a courtesy visit to President Tinubu at his Lagos residence.

Soyinka told reporters that the visit was “embarrassing” because the last time he met Tinubu five years ago was to persuade him and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar not to run for office.

He said he wanted young people to contest instead.

During the latest visit, Soyinka said he came to see how Tinubu was faring after ignoring his advice and to wish him and his wife a merry Christmas.

The professor stated he presented a seven-point agenda to the President which they had an extensive discussion on.

Soyinka’s disclosure confirms he did try to dissuade Tinubu from running but the APC standard bearer went ahead to win the election despite the counsel against it.
