Special Forces to secure Benghazi airport

Libya has officially deployed its special forces to secure and protect the Benina international airport in Benghazi, the country’s second largest city, the Libyan news agency reported Friday, quoting the spokesman for the special forces, Col. Meyloud al-Zaoui.

The quick intervention forces were deployed Wednesday night around the international airport and at sensitive structures around the airport, Mr. al-Zaoui said.

In recent times, Benghazi has witnessed attacks against civilians and security officers.

On Wednesday, an explosion rocked the building housing the Foreign Affairs Ministry, causing extensive damages to the building, even though no life was lost.

As part of efforts to enhance security in the north African nation, the Libyan authorities have solicited US and Bulgarian support to train some 8,000 Libyan soldiers.
