Sunshine Stars’ Adeniji leads NPFL top scorers race with 16 goals

Sunshine Stars striker, Tunde Adeniji, has emerged the leading goal scorer of the Nigeria Professional Football League with 16 goals after he netted a brace against Enugu Rangers on Wednesday in Lagos.

His 15th and 16th goal of the season in the Akure Gunners 5-1 rout against Enugu Enugu Rangers in a rescheduled Week 34 game at the Teslim Balogun Stadium is a major twist to the race for top scorer award.

Adeniji overtook Warri Wolves’ Gbolahan Salami and Esosa Igbinoba of Nasarawa United who both have 15 goals each with two games left to end the season.

Others on the top scorer chart are Abia Warriors’ Chisom Chikatara and Heartland’s Bright Ejike both on 13 goals. While Wikki Tourists’ Mubarak Umar and Giwa’s Ocheme Edoh are both stock on 12 goals.

Enyimba’s Mfon Udoh holds the record highest goal scored in a season, which was he last season.
