Suspension threatens Salami Eagles call-up

Gbolahan Salami’s suspension by Shooting Stars is threatening to jeopardize the player’s potential return to Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Top team officials told KickOffNigeria.com that Salami’s disciplinary record has been the single deciding factor in his continued exclusion from the Super Eagles despite his undoubted talent.

But the player stayed incident free for the better part of last season and for the current season and was under consideration for a call up, until the recent red flag.

“He is a very talented player and technical crew are considering recalling him to the Super Eagles soon,” an official informed KickOffNigeria.com. “But now, he has got himself into trouble again and it might be tough for him now.”

Salami was suspended by 3SC and had his July salary halved for missing from camp for two days ‘without official permission’.

However, the forward contested the decision, claiming he informed team officials verbally before travelling to ‘sort out a personal issue’.

A club official disclosed that the Ibadan outfit are expected to review the punishment this week

“The club management is going to review the punishment of Gbolahan Salami this week as the team is expected to return to Ibadan on Tuesday after their League game at Lobi Stars on Sunday,” a team official said.
