Championship soccer club Wigan Athletic have agreed a one-year sponsorship deal with Switzerland-headquartered sporting goods retailer Intersport.
The international firm’s logo will appear on the front of the Latics’ playing shirts throughout the 2014/15 English soccer season, in all league and cup fixtures.

The new Intersport-branded jerseys will be worn for the first time in Wigan’s preseason friendly against Turkish side Besiktas on Tuesday.

The firm, which has stores in 43 countries, is already a sponsor of French side Olympique De Marseille. No financial terms were announced.

Wigan’s chief executive, Jonathan Jackson, said: “Intersport are a very prestigious name and we are proud to become associated with them.

“It also demonstrates Wigan Athletic can continue to attract partners of this calibre for what is our major sponsorship opportunity on the front of the team shirt, seen by millions of supporters during the course of the season. We are all looking forward to having a fruitful relationship moving forwards.”
