Taekwondo: Ghana, Congo, others for Taekwondo Championships
About 40 teams from six West African countries are expected to feature in the 4th edition of the Korean Ambassador West Africa Taekwondo Championships.
The competition will commence at the Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos from September 9 to 11.
This was revealed by the President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, George Ashiru who also hinted that top officials of the National Sports Commission (NSC) would grace the event.
He said, “This event is an initiative of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, supported by LG Electronics, organised by the Nigeria Taekwondo Black Belt College, sanctioned by the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, and hosted by the Lagos State Taekwondo Association.
“It will attract 40 teams from 6 West African nations, including Ghana, Congo, Niger, Benin Republic, Togo and Mali. This innovative tournament will be graced by the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), the diplomatic community, and many enthusiasts of sport Taekwondo.”
He also disclosed that a special 20 Man Taekwondo demonstration team from South Korea will be at the event with two special high performance demonstration on the 10th and 11th of September.
It was also reported that nine children have gone to Korea for various training programmes over the summer.
