Tennis: Winners in doubles emerge, Fashola for final of 45th Asoju Oba Cup

Winners in the nine titles in the doubles events have been decided at the 45th Asoju Oba Cup table tennis championship.

emeka uzorWith the sponsor – Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas as well as the President, Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF), Wahid Oshodi watching the finals of all the doubles’ events.

With the grand finale scheduled for Friday, Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola will be the special guest of honour when the winners of the star prizes will emerge.

With the winners in the men and women singles events carting home brand new Chevrolet cars, six finals in the cadet, junior and senior events would be played at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium.

In the men’ doubles, the pair of Mojeed Olayiwola and Hammed Adeyinka had to rally from behind to beat the duo of Azeez Ogunlade 2-11, 2-11, 11-5, 11-7, 15-13, while Funke Hassan and Tolu Durosimi-Etti also repeated same feat against the pair of Kehinde Borokini and Taiwo Williams to emerge champion in an encounter than ended 5-11, 3-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-5.

For the mixed doubles event, Ogunlade and Ayo Udo overcame the duo of Olayiwola and Hassan 7-11, 11-8, 5-11, 11-4, 11-8 to emerge as winner.

Over 400 players registered for the tournament with players competing for honours in 22 events.
