TETFund commissions multi-million naira projects in Kogi State University

The Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Professor Suleiman Elias Bogoro, yesterday commissioned three intervention multi-million naira projects executed by TETFund in Kogi State University in preparation to the clinical studies at School of Medicine.
Media Assistant Chief Executive Officer of TETFund, Mr. Ezenwa Samuel, in a press statement quoted Prof. Bogoro as saying that TETFund has executed several intervention projects in most tertiary institutions of learning in the country which are aimed at enhancing learning.

According to the statement, that before Bogoro’s appointment less than 50 percent of the public tertiary institutions in the country were not able to access TETFund’s funds due to low rating of such institutions but he was change the fortunes of such institutions and are highly rated now.

The statement said, Bogoro described focus as the secret of his numerous achievements recorded since he assumed office and stressed that he has justified the confidence reposed on him as the Executive Secretary by turning around the stories of Nigeria’s public tertiary institutions within the shortest time he took over the mantle of leadership of TETFund.

Bogoro disclosed that he was part of the members of Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) that negotiated the establishment of the defunct Education Tax Fund (ETF) with the then Federal Government and that ETF which is now the TETFund and the reason for changing ETF to TETFund was to concentrate on public tertiary institutions which he is glad to heading the TETFund.

He said that evidence of massive intervention by TETFund in the public tertiary institutions are the improved rating of the institutions and securing accreditations in institutions.

According to him, most public tertiary institutions in the country in the past were unable to meet up two-third of accreditation requirements but with the interventions of TETFund in infrastructural and human capacity development in the institutions, the situation has seriously been improved.

Bogoro said added that although the improved ranking of our universities in Africa is commendable and that efforts should be geared towards improving their rankings at the global level even as TETFund would continue to strive towards achieving the improve ranking of the universities.

However, the Kogi State Governor and Visitor to the University, Capt. Idris Wada commended TETFund for its interventions in Public tertiary institutions in the country, particularly at the time when most states are facing financial challenges.

Wada described TETFund as a critical part of tertiary education in Nigeria and commended Prof. Bogoro for his leadership and commitment towards moving the tertiary institutions forward.
