Thousands of Civil Servants Fail Promotion Exam, Raising Concerns over Competency

Nigerians were shocked to learn over 9,000 civil servants failed their 2022 promotion exams, with only 3,851 passing out of 13,000 who sat the tests.

While recruitment based on “connection” rather than merit was blamed, some argued limited vacancies meant passing candidates could not be promoted.

Engineer Livinus Eze lamented “We now have a bunch of mediocre people parading as civil servants.”

Business administrator Chidiebere Eze insisted “The corruption destroying Nigeria took roots from the civil service.”

Middle Belt Forum Chairman Dr. Pogu Bitrus called for “Overhauling the civil service through training and reorienting workers to global standards.”

However, Seigha Manager believed “Majority may have passed but couldn’t be promoted due to insufficient vacancies.”

With productivity, morale and national development at stake, reforms are urgently needed to ensure only qualified candidates through fair recruitment propel the sector.
