Boko Haram members attacked a military base in Metele village, Guzamala local government area of Borno State on Monday, November 19, 2018, killing 100 soldiers.
A Twitter user has identified the soldier captured alive in the recently released Boko haram video as his father.
Tweeting from the handle, @bet0211, he gave his father’s name as WO (Warrant Officer) Festus Oluwayinka, adding that the incident happened in August 2018.
Towards the end of the video that has gone viral on social media, the terrorists are seen pushing a man in military uniform pleading for his life.

100 soldiers reportedly killed
According to reports, Boko Haram members attacked a military base in Metele village, Guzamala local government area of Borno State on Monday, November 19, 2018, killing 100 soldiers.
This is happening despite claims by the Federal Government and Army authorities that the terror group has been defeated.
According to a soldier who survived the incident, the terrorists levelled the military base with their superior weapons.
Narrating what happened to Premium Times, he said “The fight did not last for more than 45 minutes, but it was bloody because the Boko Haram fighters had more armament advantage than the soldiers.
“When we realised the fight would be against us, we decided to retreat from the camp, but it was rather too late. The camp was surrounded with barbed wire, and the enemy fire was coming from the direction of the entrance. We were surrounded.
“One of the drivers of the gun trucks decided to push through the barbed wire so that other vehicles could follow and escape, but the truck got stuck, that was how many of our soldiers in other vehicles and those on foot were massacred.
“Those that managed to escape with injuries made it on foot through Cross-Kauwa to Monguno where they boarded commercial vehicles, some even sat in the booth of the Golf cars to get to Maiduguri.
“Boko Haram made away with about seven gun trucks of the Nigeria army”.
Buhari meets service chiefs
Following the attacks, the President summoned service chiefs for an emergency meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday, November 23, 2018.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a source also addressed why the government has been silent on the issue.
“The families of the latest victims of the Boko Haram are being identified and contacts made before a government pronouncement on the tragic attacks.
“This, it is understood is the reason for the silence of the government over the incident,’’ the source added.
Nigerians react
The death of the soldiers has also caused outrage on social media, with some Nigerians calling out President Buhari for keeping quiet over the issue.
Here are some of the reactions on Twitter
Some political observers are of the opinion that the renewed attacks by Boko Haram need to be handled before the 2019 general elections.
In 2015, Goodluck Jonathan’s government had to move the presidential election from February 14 to March 28 due to concerns about Boko Haram’s onslaught in the North-East region.
Meanwhile, NAN reports that the President has sent the Minister of Defence, retired Brig-Gen. Mansur Dan-Ali, to Chad for an emergency meeting with the Chadian President, Idris Deby over the security situation at the Nigeria – Chad border.
