U-17WC: Nigeria Now Super Power In Global Soccer – Mark
President of the Senate Senator David Mark last night expressed appreciation to the victorious Golden Eaglets of Nigeria for doing the nation proud in the on going FIFA under 17 World Cup championship holding in the United Arab Emirate.
Senator Mark in a congratulatory message to the players and officials in Dubai after they defeated their Sweden counterparts said the Nigerian lads gave a good account of themselves and made the nation the beautiful bride.
In a statement issued by his chief press secretary Paul Mumeh, Senator Mark reminded the Golden Eaglets that the nation is solidly behind them in prayers and assured them that the government will do the needful in terms of their welfare and upkeep.
He added that the National Assembly on its part will continue to make adequate budgetary allocation for sports to flourish in Nigeria.
The Senate President noted that sports needs to be encouraged as the needed ingredient for unity and cohesion in the country.
“We have every reason to encourage sports in all ramifications . More than any thing else, sports unites all Nigerians. It is during sporting activities like this that we forget our differences and see ourselves as true brothers and sisters “, Senator Mark maintained.
He charged the Golden Eaglets and their officials to go all out to win the championship.
Meanwhile Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu has congratulated the Goldern Eaglets on their semi-final victory describing their brand of football scintillating and overpowering.
The Golden Eaglets defeated Sweden 3-0 in the semi-finals yesterday to book a place in the final against defending Champions Mexico who also defeated Argentina 3-0 in the other semi-final
In statement issued by his Special adviser Media Uche Anichukwu, Ekweremadu said: The lads have taught us lessons in unity of purpose, determination and patriotism, I commend them for booking a place in the final match in a superb and unquestionable style. He advised the boys to remain focused and go all the way to win the coveted trophy.
