Governor Idris Wada of Kogi State on Tuesday reinstated sacked Council Chairmen in the state in obedience to the Court of appeal ruling which ordered their immediate reinstatement.

Recalled that the Kogi State, State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), had last year sacked Council Chairmen in the State, through an order of a High Court sitting in Kotonkarfe.

However, the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties had dragged the State Government to court over what they called, “illegal and improper constitution of the State Independent Electoral Commission”.

After the hearing the, High Court had declared the constitution of SIEC and all its actions, “ultra vires”, leading to the sack of the Council Chairmen and Councillors last year.

Dissatisfied with the ruling, the Kogi State Government filed an appeal before the Appeal Court in Abuja, faulting the ruling of the High Court and ordered the immediate reinstatement of the chairmen.

Meanwhile, uncertainty hit the fate of some of the Chairmen who defected to the opposition APC as the statement directing them to resume office was silent on the defectors.
