Kelvin Itoya says he wants to improve his scoring form in the 2016 Nigeria Professional Football League after scoring two goals in the recently concluded Super 4 pre-season tournament for Warri Wolves.
The striker struck against Akwa United and Nasarawa United and wants to continue to help the Seasiders perform well when the season gets underway and while he has struggled for playing time over the last two seasons, he says he is eager to keep improving.
“I definitely want to improve my scoring form this season though I can’t mention the specific number of goals I’ll score,” he told Goal.
“Things have not gone the way I had wanted. I have faced formidable challenges off-the-pitch but as a footballer I have to put everything behind me and enjoy playing football. I believe that my time to impress has arrived.
“I have also been playing as a winger for some time now and that has contributed to the reduction in my scoring rate. But because of my body size it’s a good position for me. I’m more comfortable there.”
Itoya is expected to shoulder a huge part of the goal-scoring responsibility for the club in the Caf Champions League, the Nigeria Professional Football League and the Federation Cup following the departure of Gbolahan Salami, Abu Azeez, Oghenekaro Etebo, Kufre Ebong and Stanley Dimgba.
