Why We Impeached Jimoh-Lawal as Kogi Assembly Speaker – Majority Leader

Majority Leader of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Honorable Matthew Kolawole has explained reasons why the Honorable Momoh Jimoh-Lawal was impeached as Speaker on Thursday.

Honorable Kolawole, who was one of the 17 out of 25 members that endorsed the impeachment of the embattled Speaker, said its decision to impeach the Mr Jimoh-Lawal was for his ‘gross incompetence, mal-administration and fraudulent activities’.

The State House of Assembly member representing Kabba/Bunu constituency further explained that the action of the House was in the interest of the state and unconnected with political happening in recent days.

Earlier on Thursday, impeached Honorable Lawal has been replaced Honorable Godwin Osiyi representing Ogori Mangongo constituency as the new Speaker.

Also elected were Honorable John Abah from Ibaji as the new deputy speaker, while Honorable James Eneche from Olamaboro is the new Minority leader.

Those affected in impeachment were former Speaker, Alhaji Jimoh-Lawal, his deputy speaker, Aliyu Aku and Minority Leader, Hassan Bello.

Prince Kolawole noted that all assembly members were fit to being speaker of the house, and that if any is not competent, such can be removed.

Meanwhile, the speaker’s camp has dismissed the impeachment report arguing that the Speaker had already adjourned sitting till 2nd February, 2016 while impeachment process against him started inside the chamber.

SavidNews learnt his aides swiftly managed to escape the embattled former Speaker into his waiting official car and zooms off to his residence, but the 17 lawmakers who are bent on removing the Speaker have moved to another location to proceed with the impeachment plot.

However, new Speaker, Honorable Osiyi has announced that the house has been adjourned to 16th December.
