Although the Super Eagles lost narrowly to the Argentines by 2-3, they made it to the second round, with 4 points having beaten Bosnia and Herzegovina and drawn with Iran to emerge second in the group.

A very elated Abdullahi, praised the Eagles for their hard-work, resilience and commitment. “I am very happy with the performance of our team.

“They were focused, disciplined and committed. This was evident in the games they have played so far and it is therefore not surprising that they have broken the jinx of not winning a World Cup match since 1998. It is the same attitude they displayed when they won the Nations Cup last year.

“I am confident that this team is capable of pulling a surprise against France and qualify for the quarterfinals
for the first time.

“I commend the coaches of the team led by Stephen keshi for a job well done, as well as the NFA board led by Aminu
Maigari for being focused and proactive,” he said.
