Edo Queens name 21-player squad for 2026 WAFU-B Women's Champions League Qualifiers
Nigeria Women Football League champions Edo Queens have unveiled a 21-player squad for the 2026 WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament in Burkina Faso, as they begin their quest to reclaim the regional crown and secure another appearance at the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The Benin City-based side, who won the NWFL Premiership title for the second time in three years, are returning to the WAFU B competition after making history on their debut in 2024 by winning the regional championship and subsequently finishing fourth at the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The squad combines key members of Edo Queens’ championship-winning team with notable additions, including former FC Robo Queens forward Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, who was named the NWFL Premiership Player of the Season for the 2025/26 campaign.
Top scorer Atume Doosuur is also included, alongside a strong attacking and experienced group featuring Zeniab Olopade, Favour Damaris, Glory Edet and Esther Moses. The squad also includes four recent additions, Adegbuyi, Ifeoma Ikenokwalu, Tarnum Dooshima and Vera Samuel, recruited to strengthen the champions ahead of their continental assignment.
Edo Queens will compete in Group B alongside Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa, Côte d’Ivoire’s ASEC Mimosas and AS Garde Nationale of Niger Republic. The tournament is scheduled to run in Ouagadougou from August 23 to September 5, with the eventual WAFU B champions earning the zone’s ticket to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
Substantive head coach Moses Aduku will be unavailable for the opening continental assignment due to national-team duties, with experienced tactician Kennedy Boboye taking charge of the team on an interim basis.
Edo Queens’ 21-player squad comprises Charlotte Adjie, Ifeoma Ikenokwalu, Marylyn Essien, Vera Samuel, Deborah Odiagbe, Destiny Itobore, Esther Moses, Tarnum Dooshima, Atume Doosuur, Zeniab Olopade, Favour Damaris, Glory Edet, Oluebube Umejiaku, Valentina Uroko, Aminat Folorunsho, Siadat Adebiyi, Esther Inyang, Chidima Ogbuchi, Morufat Ademola, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Doris Ohia.
The Nigerian champions arrived in Ouagadougou with the squad and officials and have already begun preparations for the tournament. Their immediate objective is to navigate a demanding Group B, but the ultimate prize is a return to the CAF Women’s Champions League, where Edo Queens made an impressive continental debut two years ago.
With a blend of established NWFL champions, emerging talents and proven additions, Edo Queens will be hoping the squad can reproduce the determination that carried them to the domestic title and the WAFU B crown in 2024.
