Port Harcourt to host 2026 NPBL Playoff for fourth consecutive year
Port Harcourt has been confirmed as the host city for the 2026 Nigeria Premier Basketball League (NPBL) Playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.
The League Management Committee of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) announced a slight adjustment to the tournament schedule, with the Phase 3 Playoffs now set to run from August 29 to September 6 at the Basketball Stadium, 59 Niger Street, Port Harcourt Township, Rivers State.
The playoffs were initially scheduled for August 22 to 29.
In a communiqué dated August 21, 2026, NBBF Vice-President and League Chairman Babatunde Ogunade, alongside Secretary-General Amina Amanchi, commended the qualified teams for their professionalism and performances throughout the season.
Under the revised schedule, participating teams are expected to arrive in Port Harcourt on August 29 for pre-tournament technical meetings. Competitive action will take place from August 30 to September 5, with teams scheduled to depart on September 6.
The eight-team tournament will feature a round-robin format involving four teams from the Atlantic Conference — Rivers Hoopers, Maktown Flyers, Hoops & Read and Lagos Raptors.
The Savannah Conference will be represented by Aso Sky Hawks, 313 Warriors, Gboko City Chiefs and Kano Pillars.
The decision to retain Port Harcourt as the venue further strengthens Rivers State’s position as a major destination for elite domestic basketball in Nigeria. The city also hosted last year’s playoffs and Final Four, attracting basketball fans from across the region.
