WAFCON 2026: Morocco make statement start to tournament with victory over Kenya

Hosts Morocco made a commanding start to their 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign with a convincing 4-0 victory over Kenya in their Group A opener.

Morocco wasted little time asserting their dominance and broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when Sakina Ouzraoui found the back of the net to give the Atlas Lionesses an early advantage.

The home side doubled their lead nine minutes later through M. Atiq, whose well-taken finish in the 28th minute put Morocco firmly in control of the contest.

Before the halftime whistle, experienced forward Ibtissam Jraidi added a third goal in the 32nd minute, leaving Kenya with a mountain to climb after the break.

Jraidi completed her brace just two minutes into the second half, scoring in the 47th minute to seal an emphatic 4-0 triumph for Morocco.

The comprehensive win sends Morocco to the top of Group A after the opening round of matches, while Kenya will look to bounce back in their next fixture as they seek their first points of the tournament.
