Former Nigeria U-20 star Rilwanu Sarki arrested at Abuja airport
Former Nigeria U-20 winger Rilwanu Haliru Sarki has reportedly been arrested by Nigerian authorities upon his arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Sarki, who currently plays professionally for Al Ain FC, was said to have been apprehended at the airport’s arrival hall during his return to Nigeria for the post-season holiday.
According to reports, the operation was jointly carried out by the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Immigration Service, with immigration officials allegedly handing the player over to police operatives immediately after his arrival.
Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that the arrest is linked to Sarki’s alleged failure to honour multiple police invitations connected to a criminal investigation said to have lasted for over a year.
Reports further claim that efforts are currently being made through contacts within the police and immigration hierarchy to facilitate his release, although it remains uncertain whether such moves will succeed due to the sensitive nature of the case and its possible international implications.
The former Flying Eagles star is expected to face court proceedings after the completion of investigations and other legal processes.
The matter remains a developing story as authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations and circumstances surrounding the arrest.
